Teigan Holinaty of Summerland was a little golden girl at the B.C. Freestyle competition held this past weekend at Silver Star Mountain. Teigan, 8, is a member of the Apex Freestyle Club and in her first provincial competition she took home gold medals in both moguls and slopestyle.  (Slopestyle is when skiers hit different jumps and features along a set course).

Freestyle Skiing is all about having the most possible fun that you can have on your skis. Freestyle skiers enjoy moguls, bumps, jumps, terrain parks, free-skiing and rail features.

Apex Freestyle has two sides to the club. One is the Bumps and Jumps where children aged six to 13 learn to ski it all and to ski well. The other side is the junior competitive, competitive and development teams. Many young skiers from Apex Freestyle have gone on to Team BC and the National Team. Summerland’s own Olympian, Kristi Richards, got her start at Apex.

Richards is Teigan’s hero in the sport and has watched her train and met her numerous times.  She is already excited to see her in the 2014 Olympics; but this past weekend she was excited about her own medals.  “I can’t wait to tell Kristi that I won two gold medals!”
