LETTER: Administrator and council are not listening

All due diligence costs and analysis should have been done up front

Dear Editor:

How disrespectful of Linda Tynan, chief administrative officer of the District of Summerland to disregard the concerns of the Penticton Indian Band regarding the land Lark Groups luxury 380-unit condo development is proposed to be built on, and to state that “the PIB letter will not stop the process.”

However, she does seem to be reinforcing the council’s behaviour of disregarding the concerns from B.C. Fisheries, B.C. Wildlife organizations and the neighbourhood.

How can the residents of Summerland continue to support a council who were elected on promises to retain the agricultural look and feel of the town and to quote Mayor Peter Waterman, “listen to the people of Summerland” when clearly they are not listening?

How disgraceful to continue the ruse and premise that this luxury — not seniors — development is good for business and the taxpayers when council continues to waste money in surveying local roads that will be extremely costly to upgrade to truck route standards to handle the additional 280 vehicles per day and will increase costs to all Summerland residents?

All due diligence costs and analysis should have been done up front before it passed first and second reading at council, unless of course there has been a back room deal done or a law suit threatened if the development doesn’t get passed.
