Art pops up in the most unexpected places sometimes. It’s what makes it such a wonderful and experiential thing.

It’s one thing to see it in museums and galleries, but when you’re out in the world, exploring something new, I always notice the art that I see.

The Summerland Ornamental Gardens is putting out a call looking for artists to display their art in the Ornamental Gardens for two days this summer for Art in the Gardens.

This is a one of those chances to not only bring art to a place that you wouldn’t expect to find art — although the Summerland Ornamental Gardens often displays art or hosts creative events. There aren’t many restrictions on what they’re looking for and all you have to do to be considered for Art in the Gardens is fill out a form.

Art in the Gardens is taking place over two weekends, July 30 and Aug. 27. For more information and to find out about where you can get the form you need to fill out, contact friends.summerlandgardens@gmail.com.

If you’re out and about looking for more art to check out, the Summerland Community Arts Council has their Community Challenge Art Show running until Aug. 12.

This show was put together after a call went out to the community to create art based on the prompt, “My Canada is…”

Artists were encouraged to use that theme to make art any way they wanted, whether it be woodworking, collage, painting, sculpture, you name it.

The best part is, while you’re there enjoying the creative endeavours of the community, you also have a chance to vote for the People’s Choice Award.

The show takes place at the Art Centre on Wharton St. and is one you definitely don’t want to miss.

It’s looking like this is going to be one of those summers where it’s best to stay inside and focus on your work. With all the smoke and fires that are burning right now, it’s hard on the body to spend any real amount of time outside, especially for kids.

The Arts Council is running a great series of classes for kids this summer as part of their Summer Arts Program. If you haven’t checked this out already, now’s the time.
