Robert HARDIE

May 28, 2010

Robert (Bob) Hardie October 27, 1920 - May 28, 2010. It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Bob on May 28, 2010 in Vancouver with family at his side. Predeceased by wife Gwen (nee MacDonnell), daughter Maureen (Ray) and brothers William and Howard; he is survived by sons Allan (Mary Jane) and Doug (Susan); grandchildren Trevor (Adrienne), Aimee (Mike), Michael, Lara (Tom) and Shea; great grandchildren Zac, Gray and Lucas and the extended MacDonnell family whom he treasured.

Bob and Gwen lived in Rutland until the early 60’s before moving to Summerland where they operated ‘Hardie’s Service’, a Texaco station. It was a fixture on Main Street for twenty years. After selling it, he changed careers and became the best Zamboni driver in the Okanagan. In retirement, he and Gwen could often be found traveling the back roads of BC in their camper with Gwen on the lookout for any wildlife while liberally using the brake pedal on the passenger side. Bob would say he had a good life. We thank him for giving us a great life and we will miss him dearly. Love you Papa. A family celebration of Bob’s life will be held in the Okanagan later this summer.
