It is great sadness that we announce the passing of Nellie (Nolan) Chuback, 82 of Summerland, B.C. She was taken to our Lord peacefully in her home, after a prolonged battle with Lewy Body Dementia. She was surrounded by the love and support of her family. Nellie was predeceased by her loving husband William (Bill) in 2002, who she is joining in eternity. It is with heartbreak that she leaves her eight children, Josie Chuback (Chris Patrick) of North Vancouver, BC., Patrick (Carolyn) Chuback, of Toronto, Ontario, Linda Galpin (Brian King) of Summerland, B.C, David (Rena) Chuback of Summerland, B.C., Carol Chuback (Kenny Fraser) of Summerland and Calgary, Alberta, Grace McKeeman (Wayne Manzer) of Golden, B.C., Mike (Lynn) Chuback of South Surrey, B.C., Donna (Ted) Johnston of Gallarate, Italy; and her wonderful grandchildren the joy of her life: Kyle (Tanya), Sara and Jamie Galpin; Alyssa, Reesa and Tayah Chuback; Jessica, Jeffrey and Taylor McKeeman; Amanda, Jake and Eli Chuback; Katie Johnston. Great granddaughter Hailey Galpin. Nellie is further survived by family members in Ireland and Canada - sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews andother relatives and friends who will mourn her passing as will we. Of special mention are her sisters Kitty Carrol and Joan Nolan of Prosperous, Ireland, brother Christopher”Christy”, and sisters Rita( Leo) Klafki and Mary Spaens (Ed Janovic) of Golden, B.C. Her thirteen grandchildren will fondly remember or be told, not only of their proud Irish heritage but the stories of their grandmother’s beauty, courage, talents, devotion to family, her sweet soul, strong hands and smiling eyes. Our mom was born in Dublin, Eire on July 22nd, 1926 to Michael and Margaret Nolan (Coyle). A beautiful and lively Irish redhead, Nellie met Bill, a dashing Canadian soldier on leave in Dublin during the war. It was true love and they began a correspondence and romance that culminated in a marriage proposal by telegram. Nellie immigrated to Canada, traveling alone and landing in Canada on St Patrick’s Day 1949. Nellie married her sweetheart in Melville Saskatchewan, May 3, 1949. After spending time in Fort McLeod, Lethbridge, Vernon and Radium, Bill and Nellie moved to Golden in 1953 where she became a Canadian citizen the following year. There they built their life and raised their family before retiring to Summerland in 1999. Nellie’s love of life, faith in family and hope for the future was the foundation of a truly loving family. She lived a full and dedicated life and was a long time active member of church and community, serving as president and 4 year member of the Catholic Women’s League. Her untiring commitment to the church and the community will long be remembered. Nellie touched the lives of many in her life journey and they are all the better for it. Her energy, love and smiling Irish eyes will be fondly remembered and forever missed by her family. We would like to express our thanks to Dr. Venkataraman, Father Sebastian, Father Ferdinand and the dedicated team of home care nurses and home support workers. Special thanks to our dear sister Carol for caring for her so tenderly over the years. A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, January 8th, 2009 at 1 pm at Holy Child Catholic Church, Summerland, BC. Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Society of BC and the Summerland Catholic Women’s League. Condolences may be sent to the family c/o hansons@shawcable.com
