Captain James P. Brown

Born in Newton Stewart, Scotland, May 8, 1916. Passed away August 3, 2009 at Summerland Seniors Village. Jim was educated at Barnard Castle School in Durham County, England. He graduated from the Cadet Training Ship H.M.S. Conway in 1932. He served as a Deck Officer with Blue Funnel Line, T.J. Harrison and the Ministry of War Transport before serving as Master with Canadian Transport Co. Ltd. HE joined the Board of Marine Underwriters as a Marine Surveyor in 1948 becoming Head Surveyor of its successor company, Marine Surveyors of Western Canada. He was a founding member of the Company of Master Mariners of Canada and retired to Summerland in 1971. Jim is survived by his wife of 68 years, Phyllys, Summerland, daughter Sheena Ball (Rae) and son James T. Brown both of White Rock and his brother W. Mackie Brown in England. No service. Cremation, with ashes to be scattered at sea at a later date. The family would like to thank all the staff in Residential Care, Summerland Seniors Village, for their excellent care of Jim. “The pipes are playing from Glen to Glen.”
