Gerald H. Hallquist, 1916 – 2009. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jerry Hallquist of Summerland, BC. Survived by his wife Edith of 68 years, son Bruce (Mary), grandchildren Lisa (Mike), Kelly, and Brad, great grandchildren Megan & Mya. Predeceased by son Roderick. Jerry and Edith moved to Summerland in 1946 and owned & operated the Cake Box Bakery. They moved on in 1949 to establish the Summerland 5¢ to $1.00 Store, which they operated until 2006. Jerry was very active in the community, being a founding member of the Summerland Kiwanis Club, as well as being active in the Curling Club and a leader in the business community. Jerry was Summerland’s Good Citizen in 1980. A Private Family Service will be held. An Open House Celebration of Jerry’s Life will be held Friday, May 8th, 2009 beginning at 1:30pm at Rosedale Memorial Chapel, 13205 Rosedale Avenue, Summerland, BC.
