DEREK WILLIAM WOTHERSPOON

September 14, 2016

Derek William Wotherspoon, born July 24, 1929, passed away peacefully September 14, 2016 at the age of 87 years. Derek is predeceased by his wife Elma, whom he married in 1954 after emigrating from Edinburgh, Scotland. He enjoyed a successful career as a bank manager for the Royal Bank of Canada. He and Elma raised their family in Alberta (mostly Calgary) where they lived until they retired to Summerland, BC in 1985. Derek had a Scottish sense of humor and he loved nothing better than to entertain his family and friends with a good joke. He was a knowledgeable car enthusiast, so much so that his children laughingly called him the ‘car salesman’s nightmare’. He loved golf and long walks with Elma by his side. He was a self-taught musician and often entertained seniors with his lively keyboard playing. He was a loving father and a reliable, trusted friend. The phrase ‘salt of the earth’ was meant for Derek. He is remembered and sadly missed by his children David (Evelyn) Wotherspoon and Joan (Bill) Lister, along with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A celebration of

his life will take place at Providence’s

Summerland Chapel, 13205 Rosedale Ave., Summerland, BC, October 15, 2016 at 2:00 PM. Memorial donations may be made to the Moog & Friends Hospice House, c/o Penticton & District Hospice Society, 129 Nanaimo W., Penticton, BC.
