ARIETTA BONTHOUX

October 11, 2010

Arietta “Rita” Bonthoux. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Arietta “Rita” Bonthoux on October 11, 2010 at the age of 97 years. Mom was born on November 24th, 1912 to Alfredo and Domenica Biagioni in Summerland, BC. Mom was predeceased by her parents, her half sister Natalina, brothers Marino and Adorno Biagioni. The Biagioni family were some of the early settlers to Summerland. Alfredo, as stone mason, was responsible for building the Anglican Church, the Colonel Cartwright Estate and the family home (now Zia’s Restaurant). Mom was a hardworking member of the community. As a young girl she hired out as a housekeeper, then for many years she worked in the Co-op packing houses in Summerland and Penticton. Later she worked at the 5 to a Dollar Store (Jerry’s) and then in the kitchen in the Summerland Hospital until she retired. Mom loved her garden and her yard. She also loved to travel with her brother and sister-in-law; enjoying trips to the United States in their motor home. She is one of the oldest parishioners of the Catholic Church and was very active in the Catholic Women’s League. Mom is survived by her three children, Darlene (Jack) Pohlman and Laurane (Robert) Garlough of Surrey, BC, Leo (Wendy) Bonthoux of Kamloops, BC; seven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; as well as many nephews and nieces. Also survived by her sister Mary DeRosier and brother Rocco Biagioni of Summerland, BC. The family would like to thank the staff of the Dr. Andrew Pavilion for the outstanding and loving care mom was given. She goes to her Father in heaven and will be greatly missed by all. Prayers will be held Friday, October, 22, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. followed by Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, October 23, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. from Holy Child Catholic Church, 14010 Rosedale Ave., Summerland, BC, with Celebrant Father Ferdinan Nalitan. Interment to follow at Peach Orchard Cemetery. Memorial tributes may be made to Dr. Andrew Pavilion (Extended Care), PO Box 869, Summerland, BC, V0H 1Z0.
