ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION NOTICE

The District of Summerland intends to submit an applica_on to the Director to authorize the opera_on of a compost facility. The facility will be situated within the Summerland Landfill at 17202 Bathville Rd, Summerland, BC with legal description DISTRICT LOT 2542 OSOYOOS DIVISION YALE DISTRICT EXCEPT PARCEL A (PLAN 629), KAP70418 AND EPP39321.

The maximum capacity of the compost site will be 5062 dry tonnes of finished compost per year. The operating period for this facility will be 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday from 8:15 am to 4:15 pm. The source of feedstocks for this facility will be solely from the District of Summerland and surrounding areas of Electoral Area “F” of the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen. The compost site will receive residential food waste, wastewater treatment sludge, septage waste, yard waste, wood waste, agricultural organics and small amounts of other materials permibed for composting under the Organic Maber Recycling Regulation. The facility will compost materials using aerated static piles enclosed within a layer of finished compost. All leachate from composting and curing activities will be collected and managed at the Summerland Landfill.

Any person who may be adversely affected by the proposed facility and wishes to provide relevant information may, within 30 days a`er the last date of posting, publishing, service or display, send written comments to the District of Summerland, with a copy to the Regional Director, Environmental Protection at 102 Industrial Place, Penticton B.C., V2A 7C8. Please note the Pre-Authorization and Tracking Numbers above. The identity of any respondents and the contents of anything submibed in relation to this application will become part of the public record.
