UPDATE: March 1, 2:45 p.m.

The victim targeted in last night's shooting continues to recover from those injuries and has since been released from the hospital.

While there's little new information coming from police about Tuesday night's shooting, Interior Health representatives are offering some perspective into what they faced.

Kelowna General Hospital implemented "restricted access" protocols at around 6 p.m. when a man showed up at their ER with bullet wounds and didn't lift it until 11:30 p.m.

"These procedures provided for enhanced security on site, and additional access control measures for the emergency department," said  Andrew Hughes, KGH Health Service Administrator.

UPDATE: 9:45 p.m.

Kelowna RCMP confirm officers are investigating a shooting Tuesday night.

At about 6 p.m., RCMP were told a man had arrived at the Kelowna General Hospital ER with injuries consistent with being shot.

“RCMP attended the hospital and located a vehicle believed to be associated to the victim, in the drop off area, with visible damage consistent with being involved in a shooting,” confirms Cpl. Jesse O'Donaghey.

The victim, a man in his 20s, remains in hospital at this time, receiving treatment for injuries of an undisclosed nature.

Kelowna RCMP have identified and secured a second location, in the general area of Sexsmith Road and Pinto Road, which they believe to be related to the shooting.

"The investigation is in its early stages," said O'Donaghey. "However, preliminary information suggests that this was not a random attack. Police do not believe that the public is at risk."

The Kelowna RCMP General Investigation Section, supported by both the Kelowna RCMP Serious Crime Unit and the RCMP Integrated Forensic Identification Services, has now assumed conduct of the ongoing investigation.

RCMP are asking anyone who may have heard anything suspicious earlier this evening in the area of Sexsmith Road and Pinto Road, or may have any information at all, to contact the Kelowna RCMP GIS at 250-762-3300.
