UPDATE:

The Kamloops RCMP continues its investigation into the death of a man following a street fight early Friday morning.

So far, police say their information indicates the fight and subsequent death stemmed from an argument between two individuals earlier that night at a local pub.

"RCMP investigators do not believe there is an outstanding safety concern for the general public.  Investigators are in the process of determining exactly what happened," says Cpl. Jody Neuls.

Police rushed to the scene near the 400 block of Tranquille Road in Kamloops just before 3 a.m. on Friday.

Police arrived to find a lone man unconscious on the ground. The man died from injuries while on scene.

The investigation into the man's death is being led by the Kamloops RCMP Serious Crime Unit.

The Kamloops Serious Crime unit is actively gathering all relevant evidence and asks all who witnessed this event or have knowledge about it to please contact the local police or Crimestoppers.

Kamloops RCMP are expected to release more information today on a deadly fight early this morning.

At 2:49 a.m. on Dec. 30, Kamloops RCMP received a complaint of a fight on the 400 block of Tranquille Road on the North Shore.

“Initial reports indicated that a fight in progress left a lone male unconscious on the ground,” explained Sgt. Karen Delorey.

“Police and ambulance responded where a 42-year-old male was located and medical treatment was administered. Unfortunately, the male had succumbed to his injuries while on scene.”

On Friday morning, investigators focused on an area across the street from the Cherry Avenue apartments.

Hayley Anderson, who lives in a first-floor suite in the apartment building at 435 Cherry Ave., told Kamloops This Week that she was awoken around the time of the fight by the sound of people running.

We heard running and that’s it,” she told KTW. “The running went past our living room window. Next thing you know, there’s police everywhere.”

Anderson said she wasn’t sure at first if something had happened.

You get a little bit desensitized to the noise,” she said. “You’re always hearing noises and sounds, but this is a little startling. But I’m almost glad we were oblivious to the fact of what was going on, because then you feel the need to get involved and who knows what can happen.”

The Kamloops RCMP Serious Crime Unit is investigating this matter and is asking that anyone with information to contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) to remain anonymous.

“The Kamloops RCMP is aware that there were several witnesses to this event and those persons are strongly encouraged to come forward as soon as possible,” adds Delorey.

A further update from the RCMP is expected before noon today.
