Summerland organizations receive grant-in-aid funding

The municipality of Summerland has awarded 16 recipients with $53,000 in grant-in-aid funding for 2024.

The funding was approved in the 2024 financial plan. The following organizations have received funds:

• Summerland Food Bank and Resource Centre, $15,500

• Ryga Festival Society, $5,100

• Friends of Summerland Ornamental Gardens, $5,500

• BGC Okanagan, $4,000

• Royal Canadian Legion (Canada Day celebrations), $500

• Royal Canadian Legion (roof repairs), $4,500

• Terry Fox Run, for parking lot rental, $71

• Summerland Community Centre, $2,000

• Summerland Alliance Church, for seasonal water service, $800

• Kettle Valley Railway Society, $1,500

• Summerland Action Festival Association, $2,000

• Summerland Rodeo Grounds Equine Development Society, $1,500

• Meadowlark Nature Festival, $1,000

• Summerland Fall Fair Society, $5,000

• Summerland Bluegrass Society, $250

• NeighbourLink Summerland, $2,000

• Canadian Curling Championship – Rob Robinson, $500

Another three organizations receive standing operational grant-in-aid funding.

The Summerland Museum and Archives Society receives $55,000, the Summerland Youth Centre receives $5,500 and the Summerland Community Arts Council receives $6,000.

The annual grant-in-aid process began in the early fall of 2023, with all applications due by Oct. 31.

The municipality received a total of 21 applications.

The grant-in-aid policy outlines the criteria for receiving this funding. This includes registration as a not-for-profit or charity. Funding requests can be defined as events with local significance, projects or programs that support, sustain, promote, inform, educate, celebrate, preserve or provide access to the arts, culture, environment, heritage, recreation or health activities.
