Because of the dry conditions throughout the Regional District of Okanagan-Simikameen, residents, property owners and visitors are reminded to avoid open burning until further notice.
On April 18, the regional district issued a notice about concerns over open burning. This notice came after open burning had been banned in portions of the regional district.
From April 15 to Oct. 15, open burning is not permitted in the fire protection areas of Anarchist, Kaleden, Naramata and Okanagan Falls.
The warning about open burning does not extend to campfires for heating, warmth, cooking or Indigenous ceremonial purposes. Such fires are permitted on a pile not exceeding 0.5 metres high and 0.5 metres wide.
