The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen is urging people to use Emergency Preparedness Week as a time to prepare for potential emergencies.
The week runs from May 5 to 11.
During the week, organizers are encouraging Canadians to take three steps to become better prepared to face a range of emergencies:
• Know your hazards
• Make your plan
• Gather your supplies
A PreparedBC webinar will be held Thursday, May 9, beginning at 5:30 p.m. This webinar will have information on how to prepare for emergencies, including some of the ways technology can help. The deadline to register for the webinar on Zoom is Wednesday, May 8, at 11:59 p.m.
The regional district is also urging residents and visitors to take action to be better prepared to protect themselves and their families during emergencies. This includes making a personal preparedness kit.
Depending on severity, a household could be on its own for several days while officials help those who need it most.
