Old man winter has a tight grip on the entire province with temperatures in the Okanagan and Shuswap hitting negative double digits this week.

“It is cold everywhere,” says Environment Canada meteorologist Ross McDonald.

“We've seen a strong push of arctic air that has gone right through the province and with that some very cold temperatures have come through each region step by step.”

The region is currently hovering above -5 C, but McDonald says that is about to change.

“The arctic air is here and deeply entrenched,” says McDonald. “Tuesday is going to be the warmest of the next couple of days."

He says while it may vary from north to south, the daytime high for Wednesday and Thursday is -9 C.

“Those temperatures are five to 10 degrees below normal for this time of year,” says McDonald.

“Overnight lows are really going to be down there in the double digits, certainly -14 C by Wednesday night.”

McDonald says it will warm up slightly for the weekend with daytime highs of -4 C. and with that 'warmer' weather we may see snow.

“The snow has been everywhere around the Okanagan, but you dodged the bullet for the first couple of days,” said McDonald.

“As we push into the weekend, we are introducing the chance of flurries and snow late Thursday, Friday and Saturday. It doesn't look like it will be too much though.”

He predicts the potential of a few centimetres each day at most.

“Old man winter certainly has the whole province in its grips.”
