The Summerland Legion will be organizing the annual Remembrance Day Ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 11.
The colour party and a parade made of the town’s youth groups will begin their march at 10:30 a.m., with the ceremony itself starting at 11 a.m.
The Legion invites people of all ages to attend the ceremony in Memorial Park. An estimated 1,000 people attended last year’s Remembrance Day.
To show your support for the veterans of war, you may pick up a poppy at most businesses in town by donation.
Approximately 150 boxes of poppies will go out on Friday, and donations will be picked up on Nov. 13.
Wearing a poppy next to your heart is a sign that you remember the tragic events that have taken place in our history.
All proceeds from the poppy sales go to provide services and treatment for veterans and their dependants.
Summerland is still home to a few veterans from World War II and a number who fought during other wars to help bring Canada many of the freedoms we enjoy today.
Through this event, their efforts and the lives of fallen soldiers will be honoured and remembered.
