Over $12,000 has been raised so far for a Summerland family that were injured in a motor vehicle incident on Friday afternoon.

Ilea Cansdale, and her six year old daughter Ameilea, were rear-ended by a pickup truck that led to a chain reaction crash involving at least two other vehicles on Highway 97 near the intersection with Pineview Drive, just outside of Kaleden.

According to the fundraising webpage that was set up for the family, both of them were transported to the Penticton Regional Hospital to assess their injuries. Ameilea was flown with her father to the Children’s Hospital in Vancouver and suffered a broken nose, jaw and needed stitches for some of the lacerations she received in the incident. Her mother was in ICU in Penticton with a severe concussion and broken arm.

The organizer of the page, Michelle Cristante, said she started the page with the blessing of the family to assist with their long road to recovery ahead of them.

Investigation of the matter has been turned over to the RCMP South Okanagan Traffic Services who said Monday no additional information is available.
