A proposal to allow food truck in front of Summerland Waterfront Resort and Spa each week through the summer will not go ahead.

At the council meeting on May 23, council voted to deny the request for the weekly food trucks.

The proposal was to have trucks in place each Friday from May to September, from 3 to 9 p.m.

Members of municipal staff raised concerns about the proposal.

The request was contrary to Summerland’s traffic bylaw, which prevents on-street parking stalls from being occupied for commercial uses.

In addition, the location is in an area with limited on-street parking and high traffic volumes in the summer.

The municipality offers bidding opportunities for vendors at other locations in Summerland, including Rotary Beach and Peach Orchard Beach, both north of Summerland Waterfront Resort.
