A petition of signatures opposed to the proposed Banks Crescent development has grown to more than 3,000 names.

At the municipal council meeting on Oct. 10, Jos Dronkers presented the list, which has now reached 3,011 signatures.

But not all the names are local.

Dronkers said the names of Summerlanders account for 2,461 of the signatures.

“We strive to preserve agricultural lands,” Dronkers said as she announced the latest petition statistics.

The Banks Crescent development is a 424-unit seniors housing facility, to be built on a property overlooking Okanagan Lake.

While the property is being used as an orchard at present, it is not within the provincial Agricultural Land Reserve.
