Wineries involved with Festival of Lights

Summerland wineries will uncork their wines during the Festival of Lights weekend at the end of November.

Summerland wineries will uncork their wines during the Festival of Lights weekend at the end of November.

Lisa Jaager, manager of the Summerland Chamber of Economic Development and Tourism, said a new event, Light up the Vines, will be held on Saturday, Nov. 26, the day after the Festival of Lights.

During the wine event, a shuttle bus will take participants to the various Bottleneck Drive wineries.

There will also be prix fixe menus from participating restaurants. A party after the tasting will be held at Local Lounge and Grille.

Jaager said tickets for the new event are already selling quickly. She said the event will help market the community to younger adults. “It’s introducing Summerland in a new light to a new age group,” she said.

The event runs from 3 to 10 p.m. and shuttle buses will leave regularly from the Summerland Art Gallery, Summerland Motel and Summerland Waterfront Resort. A shuttle will also transport participants from Penticton to Summerland.

The 24th annual Festival of Lights will take place on Nov. 25. Events and activities will take place in downtown Summerland on Friday, Nov. 25 from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

It will include vendors, foods from around the world, children’s activities including Santa’s Workshop at the Summerland Credit Union, photos with Santa and plenty of entertainment on Main Street. The evening concludes with a fireworks display at 8 o’clock.

This year, pop-up stores will be allowed in the downtown area. These are small stores which will set up in downtown buildings for the weekend.

Jaager said the stores will help to enhance the festival and encourage people to shop in Summerland on the weekend.

“We have some really great stores downtown,” she said. “We just don’t have enough of them.”

The weekend will also feature an artisan market at Summerland Waterfront Resort and the start of the Seasons Sparkles Christmas Gift Show at the Art Gallery.
