Archaeologist to speak during Heritage Week

Okanagan archaeologist Brenda Gould will give a talk on Okanagan-Similkameen First Nations History on Saturday, Feb. 18, at 2 p.m. as part of Canada’s Heritage Week.

Heritage Week runs from Feb. 13 to 19. This year’s theme is My Canada, My B.C.

Gould’s work in 2016 included archaeological assessments of Trout Creek, Skaha Hills and Swiws (Haynes Point).

“Along with the Summerland branch of the Okanagan Historical Society, the Summerland Museum and Archives Society, and the Summerland Seniors Village, we are pleased to welcome Ms. Gould,” said Dave Hill, chair of the Summerland Heritage Advisory Commission. “Her presentation will provide another opportunity to discover more about the First Nations people who have lived in our region for thousands of years.”

The free presentation will be held in the Sage Brush Theatre, on the second floor of the Summerland Seniors Village, 12803 Atkinson Rd.. Registration is not required. Donations are welcome. Doors open at 1:30 p.m.
