LETTER: Summerland has version of alternative facts

Petitions gauge level of opposition, not support, for developments

Dear Editor:

When Donald Trump was elected President he introduced an entirely new terminology to the world – alternative facts.

Summerland has always had its version of alternative facts especially concerning major developments like Banks Crescent.

I have lived in Summerland since 1966 and I have never seen a petition supporting any major development.

I assume the reason why those who oppose these developments rely upon petitions to gauge the extent of opposition.

So far 948 Summerland citizens have signed the petition. This includes the 166 who, did not supply an address and the eight who signed anonymously.

Seeing that the latest census states Summerland’s population is 11,615 your represents eight per cent of Summerland’s population.

The flip side of this is 92 per cent of Summerland residents did not sign the petition.

Which one is the alternative fact?

Lloyd Christopherson
