Upcoming events, concerts, live theatre, art exhibitions taking place in Penticton and the South Okanagan.

July 14 — Ben Sures is a Canadian singer, songwriter and guitar player best known for his unique songwriting and engaging performances. He is performing at the Dream Café. Tickets are $19 for premium seats and $10 for wings.

July 14 — Rock the Sun, a free concert series in Penticton’s Gyro Park, featuring Timothy Hurley and the Vultures from 7 to 9 p.m. This reggae tribute act plays songs of Bob Marley as well as other “reggafied” classic rock tunes.

July 14 and 15 — Bob Bricker and Clint VanBlanken on the Barking Parrot patio from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

July 15 — Terence Jack’s West Coast rock energy comes to the Dream Café. Tickets are $39 for premium and $24 for wings.

July 15 — King Buzzard and Dadweed perform at the Saint-Germain Café from 7 to 10 p.m.

July 16 — Live music Sundays at the Cannery Brewing Company featuring Yanti Rowland from 6 to 8 p.m.

July 17 — Serena Ryder is performing in the Cleland Theatre, starting at 8 p.m. Tickets at livenation.com.

July 19 — Chouk Bwa Libéte recorded their debut album in a small village in rural Haiti. Heavily percussive, adorned with call-and-response vocals and infused with the scent and sensibility of voodoo, they are performing at the Dream Café. Tickets are $43 for premium seats and $29 for wings.

July 19 —Wednesdays on the Water presents the Malarkeys in Summerland’s Memorial Park, starting at 6:30 p.m. Sponsored by the Summerland Arts Council.

July 20 — With flavours of Lucinda Williams, Nanci Griffiths, Old Crow Medicine Show and a wealth of old-time and bluegrass music, Sarah Jane Scouten is performing at the Dream Café. She is a two -time Canadian Folk Music Award nominee. Tickets are $38 for premium seats and $23 for wings.

July 21 — Five critically acclaimed albums, two Juno nominations and two Canadian Folk Music Award nominations, John Reischman and the Jaybirds are performing at the Dream Café. Tickets are $46 for premium seats and $31 for the wings.

July 21 — The Royal LePage Locations West Realty Street Dance with Rock the Sun invites everyone down to Gyro Park to enjoy live music, dance and local food that includes a special performance in the 400 block of Main Street. Beat the Streets performs from 6 to 7:45 p.m. The Australian high energy comedy and award-winning breakdancing and taps shows has performed around the world. From 7 to 8:15 p.m. West Hammock takes the stage.

July 21 and 22 — Paul Gibbons and Layla Vaugeois playing live music on the Barking Parrot Patio from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

July 26 —Wednesdays on the Water presents Millennial Spotlight in Summerland’s Memorial Park, starting at 6:30 p.m. Sponsored by the Summerland Arts Council.

July 26 to 29 — Michael Kaeshammer is a Canadian jazz and boogie-woogie pianist, vocalist, composer, arranger and producer. He brings four hot nights of music to the Dream Café.

July 28 — Rock the Sun, a free concert series in Penticton’s Gyro Park, featuring Daring Greatly from 7 to 9 p.m. This independent, five-piece, hippy rock family band has opened for Bon Jovi and the Doobie Brothers.

July 28 and 29 — Good McLaren playing music on the Barking Parrot patio from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

July 30 — West Hammock performs at Cannery Brewing from 6 to 8 p.m. No cover.

EVENTS

July 14 to 16 — Four Seasons Cultural Society Powwow at Outma Sqilx’w Cultural School. Grand Entry Friday at 7 p.m.; Saturday at noon and 7 p.m.; Sunday at noon. Entry is $5, free for children five and under.

July 15 and 16 — Artwalk in the vines from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., located in the vineyards connecting Liquidity and Noble Ridge Wineries. Tickets are $15, book online at liquiditywines.com or call 778-515-5500.

Now until July 30 — Many Hats Theatre Company presents The Norwegians at the Cannery Stage Theatre starting at 8 p.m. Thursday to Saturday and a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m. This dark comedy is about women scorned and the really, really nice gangsters, Norwegian hitmen, they hire to kill their ex-boyfriends.
