A Summerland volunteer, active in NeighbourLink and with the Agur Lake Camp Society, has been recognized for her efforts.

Mirjana Komljenovic has been nominated in the social change category in the RBC Canadian Women Entrepreneur Awards.

The awards have recognized women demonstrating excellence for the past 25 years, but this is the first time the social change category has been included.

Terry Sedawie of the Summerland Royal Bank branch nominated Komljenovic, listing her long-term involvement with NeighbourLink as the reason for the nomination. NeighbourLink is an organization made up of volunteers from churches within the community and provides service to individuals in Summerland. Last year, NeighbourLink received 450 requests for service and provided assistance to 851 people.

Sedawie said the organization is close to her heart, as people close to her have benefited from its works. Komljenovic said she is grateful for the nomination. “I feel like I don’t belong there,” she said. “It’s very overwhelming and I’m so humbled to be nominated.”

The awards will be presented in Toronto in November.
