For the first time in its 92-year-old history, the Okanagan Historical Society will hold its annual general meeting in Summerland.

The society’s Summerland branch will host the meeting on Sunday, April 30, at the Summerland Waterfront Resort.

“Our branch is delighted to host this AGM,” said branch president George Downton. “Traditionally, communities up and down the valley with society branches have taken turns hosting this meeting. Our community has tremendous First Nations, railway and agricultural history to showcase, and even though our branch is small and newer compared to those in other Okanagan communities, we’re collaborating with the Summerland Museum and the resort to make sure everyone enjoys their day.”

The public is welcome to buy tickets for the society’s luncheon, which includes a presentation on Lowertown with Dave Hill, former long-time public works manager in Summerland.

“I know almost every nook and cranny of Lowertown,” Hill said. “There’s lots to show and talk about Summerland’s beginnings on the lakeshore that go back 125 years.”

Ticket holders will receive a self-guided tour brochure that describes nearby marsh plants and their First Nation uses.

Tickets are available until April 25 at the Summerland Museum or from David Gregory at 250-494-9030.
