Local students and politicians got a tour of Penticton’s Pattison Sign Group factory Friday morning for Sign Manufacturing Day.

Students got a look at some of the work that goes into making some of the signs that you see every day, from Starbucks to A&W to Chevrolet.

That included everything from assembly to welding at a plant, which project manager Doug Hamilton said employes about 60 floor workers and 10 office workers.

The plant has been in Penticton since the early 2000s, which Coun. Judy Sentes said was a big get for the city — the plant sends signs as far east as Manitoba, and sometimes out to Ontario, and as far south as California.

Hamilton said he would like to see more jobs come to the plant, as some jobs are outsourced to other plants.
