From chopping veggies to serving up soup, residents in Penticton are paying to give back to their community as part of the event Soup Sisters.

Recently a group of close to 20 participants prepared almost 200 servings of soup with the help of the staff at Brodo Kitchen.

The local restaurant teamed up with South Okanagan Women in Need Society (SOWINS) to create Soup Sisters to provide women in need with a healthy meal.

SOWINS is non-profit society that provides services for nearly 2000 women a year, who have experienced, or who are at risk of experiencing, violence or abuse in the South Okanagan.

The Soup Sisters event takes place once a month for $55 a person — which includes wine, dinner and the soup making experience.
