A Summerland volunteer will be present when the RBC Canadian Women Entrepreneur Awards are presented in Toronto in November.

Mirjana Komljenovic, who has been active in NeighbourLink Summerland and with the Agur Lake Camp Society, was one of the nominees in this year’s awards. She was nominated in the social change category.

Earlier this week, Komljenovic was told she was not a finalist in this year’s awards, but she was invited to be present on stage during the ceremony.

In addition, the organizers invited her to apply again for next year.

“It’s really exciting,” she said. “It’s quite an honour for me, and for Summerland too.”

She added that the quality of all the applications was strong this year.

The awards have been presented for the past 25 years. They recognize women demonstrating excellence in various categories. This year is the first time the social change category has been included.

She was nominated by Terry Sedawie of the Summerland Royal Bank branch.

In the application, Sedawie listed Komljenovic’s long-term involvement with NeighbourLink as a reason for the nomination.

NeighbourLink is made up of volunteers from churches within Summerland and provides service to individuals. Last year, NeighbourLink received 450 requests for service and provided assistance to 851 people.

The award ceremony will be held in Toronto on Nov. 22.
