There are four pioneer Smith families who take the honours for the naming of Smith Street. The photo, taken about 1920, is the Alex Smith family. Alex arrived from Scotland in 1909 and his wife Johanna, a year later, apparently bringing her wedding cake with her. Alex ran the Smith and Henry Trucking firm along with son Edward and Gordon became the municipal clerk. Margaret married Bert Berry and sadly the family lost son Sandy in World War II.
